OCEANSIDE, CA, October 29, 2009 - Are you looking for some inspiration to start a running program with your friends or family members? Do you want help fight the epidemic of childhood obesity? Do you want to see the difference that physical activity can make in lives?
The organizers of the O'side Turkey Trot, a 5K and 10K harbor side run on November 27 in Oceanside , have produced an inspirational video that is being distributed to PBS stations. It also is playing on the web at www.osidetureytrot.com and on YouTube. The video focuses on the growing number of health-related problems arising from an inactive lifestyle. Through the words and images of six female athletes the video offers a positive image to young and old alike. You will be inspired to get up and “ Go for It !.

The video's six athletes – Dr. Kelly Motadel, professional horse racer Chantal Sutherland, Maddy Ramirez, world-class runner Sylvia Mosqueda, principal Dr. Lois Grazioli and teacher/model Gracie Padilla – serve as role models, particularly for girls whom, the video points out, are twice as likely as boys to suffer childhood depression.

Kelly Motadel, M.D. M.P.H. is the Medical Director of Vista Community Clinic. Dr. Motadel ran cross country and track in High School at Escondido High School and at Yale University . In 1999, Dr. Motadel received the Humanism in Medicine Award from The Healthcare Foundation of New Jersey.
Sylvia Mosqueda. America 's winningest Hispanic woman long distance runner. She has qualified for the Olympic trials four times in her career. Mosqueda placed 4th in the 1992 Olympic 10,000 meters.
Chantal Sutherland. Canada 's top female jockey, was voted one of People Magazine's “100 Most Beautiful People” in 2006. In 2007, she earned $5.7 million in purses in seven months.
Madeline Ramirez. Mother of three. Graduate of Loyola Marymount University and teacher at South Oceanside Elementary School in Oceanside . While teaching at Stuart Mesa Elementary school , the school was recognized as a Distinguished School in 2008.
"By making our video accessible on the web, we are optimistic that our video will reach those teachers or community leaders that need to show students that an active lifestyle can help them reach their goals," said Kathy Kinane, the video's executive producer. "At this time, the Oceanside Boys and Girls Club have been using the video to inspire kids at seven of their afterschool sites which offer an afterschool running program."
Kinane is a resident of Carlsbad and Executive Director of the Move Your Feet Before You Eat ! ® Foundation. Kinane also was the former head women's track and cross country coach at UCSB from 1980-1983. Jayne Romyn, a former track athlete from UCSB who has been a producer for OLN and a former resident of Temecula , is the producer of the show. KOCT provided the editing and translation support. The video was funded by a grant from the Move Your Feet Before You Eat! Foundation.
